It’s hard to get horses to stand still, let alone position themselves perfectly on top of a hill. Lucky for me this guy did just that. And lucky for me there are still more horses in greater Montana…and more hills.

The skies were so dramatic and the landscape so altering; it was such a wonderful scene. Combined with some afternoon sunlight, I thought I would make a good chance to capture some black & white photographs. I liked the results.

It was an awesome afternoon to be hiking through Bitter Creek. I saw all sorts of wildlife, including the threatened sage grouse, pronghorn, mule deer, song birds, and my first encounter with a harrier while sitting beneath this cottonwood tree. He (or she) was none too happy with my presence. Perhaps it had to do something with its nest overhead.

The clouds were absolutely beautiful this afternoon. As soon as I looked outside I knew where I needed to be. I passed this field some time ago and was waiting for some clouds and afternoon light to photograph it. This is the result.

This is one of only two structures in Loredo, Montana. The other building is abandoned, too. These tall, looming grain elevators dot the northern Montana landscape; reminders of a different time in America and relics of the past.

I was experimenting with a new technique this afternoon. I am liking what I am seeing so far. Lower Lake is just south of Havre, Montana. I absolutely love the hills around here.

Stumbled onto this scene while driving around Montana. The state, for the most part, is quite barren. But occasionally you stumble onto remnants of civilization, which punctuates the otherwise empty landscape. This old barn is no exception.
